Something delicious comes this way! It’s the Sunshine Skillet Food Festival, Southern Alberta’s premiere culinary event taking place at the opening weekend of Medicine Hat’s farmer’s market season the second Saturday of May.
 
Celebrating regional produce and food befitted foodies and families alike, the food festival kicks off with a five-course gourmet meal masterfully crafted by five local chefs served alongside perfect wine pairings at a Sunset Dinner. But the real draw is the high-stakes live culinary competition, where top chefs try to out-cook each other using only two pots, one burner and just 30 minutes to prepare their best dishes with three mystery ingredients. The top chef, determined by a celebrity judge, walks away with a $1,000 grand prize.
 
The event goes down at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stadium, just 10 minutes by car from the Days Inn Medicine Hat. The Exhibition & Stadium hosts a gorgeous farmer’s market every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning this season on May 14. Aside from the exciting seasonal launch event, the market is wonderful place to explore local produce, preserves and canned goods, find unique woodcrafts and hand-sewn items as well as wholesome personal care products.
